This is not a story about fairytales.

I expected to be lonely when I dropped everything and ran without telling a soul.
I expected to be afraid, hiding from Dean.

What I didn’t expect was Vic.

Like a moth to my blazing destruction, I’m drawn to him.
We’re lust. We’re rage. We might even be love.
We’re definitely two people who shouldn’t be together, but we belong together.
It’s not long before I’m wondering if Vic could be more twisted than the man I ran away from. Our fire won’t burn forever, but something tells me Vic might revel in the ashes.

I should have known better than to think I stood a chance.

Lenny is on the run from her ex-boyfriend. She just moved in her new apartment and meets an Asian, tall man. She also meets her neighbor Zoe, a young and friendly woman. When Zoe has a party, she discovers that the Asian, tall man is actually the owner of the building, Vic. Vic and Lenny meet occasionally and quickly become friends. Lenny falls in love with him, but Vic keeps her at a distant and keeps saying that they can’t be together. That changes when Lenny’s past comes back to haunt her and Vic protects her. Their relationship is everything but easy.

Lenny is impulsive, stubborn and says what she thinks. She’s bipolar, but she tries to not let this disease affect her life. She wanted to start a new life when she ran away, hoping to make friends and a new job as soon as possible. She loves her job as an event planner. Vic can be cold and distant, but he’s different with Lenny from the start. He does have secrets and a past that isn’t nice, and that will affect his relationship with Lenny. He’s also very mysterious about his job. He will always protect Lenny and can’t imagine a life without her.

Lissie and Zoe are amazing secondary characters. They are the first real friends of Lenny. They are there for Lenny when she needs them and give her good advice. They always have a great time together.

There were a lot of twists and turns that I never expected and they kept me turning the pages, wanting to know more about them.

The only thing I had a problem with were the last few chapters. I found them a little odd. There were a lot of time jumps and I couldn’t follow anymore. I was confused about certain things. The ending felt very rushed. I’ll definitely read their next book, because I do want to know more about their future.

You Own Me Owned Book 1 edition by Mary Catherine Gebhard Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I enjoy it. Readers, you should read it. You'll feel lots of different emotions while reading it.It's like a roller coaster with Lennox and Vic.Good book. Thank you Mary Catherine Gebhard )
Something about this book just didnt grab my attention. I never became totally invested in either of the characters And I only finished it because I bought it I will not be purchasing the second Book.
I really enjoyed this book! I bought it on a whim, looking for something mindless and quick, and instead unearthed a gem. The uncertainties of Lennie, along with her hurts, history, and totally honest self-talk struck a familiar chord with me. To find love, a crazy, illogical, passionate love is a universal theme for many folks, but listening to Lennie working through her demons was fun, as well as enlightening....so many of us carry battle scars. So few of us learn how to push through and thrive in spite of them. Enjoy!
You own me is one of the best love stories ever! This story shows the true struggles people face whether to be together or just struggling to live alone! Mary wrote a stories that truley toiched my heart, broke it a little here, repaired it some a little later, and broke it again! I cant wait for book two!! Oh and the letters...... I could feel my chest swelling!!!
Once I started reading this book I couldn't put it down. I could personally relate to Lenny on so many levels. Just like my husband and I who are an unlikely couple, I knew Vic and Lenny were meant to be from the start, and hoped against hope throughout the entire book.
If I was to quote every clever turn of phrase that delighted me in this book, I would have to quote the entire book.
I would recommend this book to anyone that likes romantic suspense with real life complications, rather than those cookie cutter perfect romance where everything always goes according to plan.
Mary Catherine Gebhard is an incredibly talented new author, and I can't wait to see more from her!
Lennox and Vic aren't your normal couple at all. Lennox is on the run from her ex. Vic is her landlord. They become friends and also find love. But it's not an "easy" relationship. He's mysterious and is keeping secrets. But somehow when they are together it all just makes sense. This is the first full length novel of Mary Catherine's that I have read and I loved it!! Love that it's not quite like everything else out there. Love the mystery of it all. Secrets and lies, friendships and love. And some STEAMY scenes too. Can't wait for the next one!!!!
When I first started reading You Own Me, I was instantly sucked into the story. I wanted to know more about Lennox, what or who she was running from, and what happened to her. Mary Catherine Gebhard held my attention with her storyline until about halfway through the book. This is when things turned to a different type of interesting for me. I really wanted to like Lennox. I really wanted to like Vic. In the beginning I loved them both, but as the story progressed, I started to see a new side to each character. Lennox turned into the character I hate to see in books. I felt she let her hormones get the best of her, and instead of standing up for herself, she became a doormat. Vic wasn’t any better either in my opinion. It was obvious they wanted each other, but Vic claimed didn’t want Lennox and more than once he said so. Not to mention he tried to stay away from her. In my mind, if a hero of the story continues to show how much he isn’t interested or is just a plain a**, then it would make sense to just move on right? Lennox didn’t. And that frustrated me to no end.
Like I said, the first part of the book was great. The second half just ruined it for me. You Own Me had such promise and I really wanted to love it. But in the end I’m actually surprised I finished it, and that ending was not what it should’ve been. There isn’t a good epilogue either, so I’m guessing Lennox and Vic’s story will be shown more in the other books in this series. I’m not sure if I’ll continue with this series because heroines like Lennox just make the entire book frustrating to read.
